It has been one year since the Mowat Centre, Ontario Chamber of Commerce, and Leger Marketing released Emerging Stronger: A Transformative Agenda for Ontario. That report identified five priority areas where Ontario’s business, government, and civic leaders should focus their efforts in revitalizing the province’s economy: fostering a culture of innovation; assembling a 21st-century workforce; putting public finances on a fiscally sustainable path; diversifying export markets; and identifying and leveraging new and existing competitive advantages.
The global economic downturn continues to have a profound effect on the province. Unemployment levels remain historically high and the province’s debt burden is growing. For Ontario to prosper we must continue to advance the Emerging Stronger agenda.
The recommendations in this report offer a policy roadmap for the next several years. We hope that the federal and provincial governments will work together, with the private and not-for-profit sectors, to move this agenda forward.View PDF
