Manufacturing jobs and the sector’s share of GDP have declined sharply. Many communities across the province have felt the impact of factory closures.

The change is more than the shift from goods producing to service industry. Ontario is not alone in seeing a decline in manufacturing. What is the sector’s future in Ontario? What strategies and policy tools can be used for building a healthy sector that takes advantage of Ontario’s comparative advantages? What does this mean for municipal governments and their own economic development interests?
